Legal action delaying Mill Rd traffic reductions

The judge has yet to make a public decision in the latest High Court hearing held 1st February 2024 between Pamela Wesson and Cambridgeshire County Council. The hearing was to decide whether or not Ms Wesson’s case regarding the implementation of the Mill Rd bridge modal filter should move forward or be “struck out”.

While Mill Road 4 People was naturally hoping for an immediate strike-out, we recognise that the criteria for this are rightly extremely stringent.

However, we continue to find it very disappointing that a small group of people feel that they can justify acting against the wishes of the vast majority of local residents. Ms Wesson has herself admitted that her action can only delay, and not prevent, the modal filter from being implemented, yet seems willing to spend large amounts of her own and council tax payers’ money on pursuing this short-term aim.

In addition, we are extremely disappointed that the County Council has allowed this action to delay much-needed safety work on the bridge. We hope that this matter will soon move to a resolution.
